Alex is a cheerful man of 48 with Down syndrome, he would like to play guitar with a buddy, songs sing, go to our church or take a walk
Who is Alex :
Alex is a cheerful and pleasant 48-year-old man with Down syndrome. He lives in a residential group at the residential care park of 's Heeren Loo. Alex likes socializing and wants to be seen. Alex uses a wheelchair. He has a large vocabulary (4 to 6 years), but does not always understand what these words mean. He has a developmental age of 3 to 4 years. He loves to sing and likes to sing along with Dutch music, he likes to go to our church at the residential care park and knows all the songs that are sung there and when the weather is nice, he likes to go for a walk in his wheelchair. Alex likes clarity and likes to be prepared for an activity. Due to his dementia, he has difficulty with unexpected things. He can suddenly become very sad and withdrawn. He needs confirmation in his uncertainty at that moment.
What is Alex asking? Alex does not go to daytime activities, but is offered activities from his living group. But it would be nicer if he could get away 1 on 1 with someone. Away from the group and the crowds. This is possible on all days of the week. In the morning between 10:00-11:30 and in the afternoon between 14:00-16:00. We are looking for a fun volunteer who takes him as he is. Someone who takes his dementia into account and doesn't mind that he is sometimes talkative and sometimes introverted. For example, someone who comes to play the guitar, sing songs with him, takes a walk on the grounds or goes to our church. Someone who comes especially for him!
