More than a million people in the Netherlands live below the poverty line.

The food banks help people who need it temporarily and most by providing them with food. For this we work together with companies, institutions, governments and private individuals. In this way, together we ensure that poverty is combated, food surpluses disappear and the environment is less burdened. Food Banks Netherlands is the national association for all 172 affiliated food banks in the Netherlands and now works exclusively with about 13,000 volunteers.

For the benefit of the association board, Food Banks Netherlands is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of:

National board member finance/treasurer

What are you going to do?

As a finance board member you are part of the national board and you are responsible for the financial policy of our association, with the following outline:

You participate in board meetings and General Members Meetings. You determine the policy of Food Banks Netherlands together with your fellow board members.

You are responsible for further building, developing and managing the Finance and Risk Management team and developing policies for local food banks and regional distribution centers.

In addition to policy-related tasks, you support the 10 regional distribution centers and 172 local food banks with implementation, questions and/or problems in the field of finance.

You assess requests for financial support from local food banks, distribution centers and projects and you ensure correct administration, processing declarations and donor administration.

You take care of the annual budget and a financial annual report and the composition of the annual accounts, including an auditor's report, and you prepare the financial reports.

You maintain contacts with banks, tax authorities, accountants, food banks and regional distribution centers.

In all your work you work closely with your Finance Coordinator and the employees of your team.

Do you have the following qualifications?

You are of an academic working and thinking level, you have at least 5 years of relevant work experience (managerial, administrative) and you have excellent oral and written expression skills.

You have empathy, are analytically strong, honest, decisive, accurate and you are firmly in your shoes on various levels.

The position requires persuasiveness, drive, initiative and a “do mentality”.

You are known as a result-oriented team player with a sense of relationships within a volunteer organization and tact.

Of course you have knowledge of and insight into financial processes and rules/procedures and you are aware of current legislation and regulations, Good Governance and you are able to develop, implement and propagate financial policy.

The expenses incurred will be reimbursed, but you will not receive a salary. Everyone who works at Food Banks Netherlands or food banks is a volunteer.

What do we ask of you?

On average you are available 12 hours a week and willing to commit yourself to our beautiful organization for a longer period of time. The work at the food banks is unpaid, your expenses are eligible for reimbursement.
