Detailed description

What does a chairman do?

The chairman at Hockey Club Ares has a leadership position. He/she is responsible, among other things, for organizing membership meetings, ensuring compliance with the regulations and ensuring the continued existence of the club. Together with the other directors, the chairman is responsible for policy. This means that the chairman must ensure that the association policy established in the general meeting of members is implemented. In many cases, this policy has been established by committees and/or working groups within HC Ares, at the direction of the board.

What are the duties of the chairman?

A chairman does not manage alone, but does this together with the board, but the chairman does have a number of tasks, such as:

· Manage and coordinate the daily management of the club

· Provide leadership and accountability to the General Members Meeting

· Promote cooperation between working groups, committees and management

· Chair the board meetings

· Monitoring the progress and quality of administrative topics as laid down in the vision or action plan

· Conducting performance reviews with permanent employees

· Ensures good internal and external representation of the board.

· Consultation partner of assigned committees and working groups

· Ensures compliance and follow-up of the Articles of Association, the Internal Regulations and the Decisions of the association board and all other rules and regulations

· Identifies problems and proposes solutions or delegates them to the appropriate board member

What skills do you need?

The role of chairman requires a number of skills that make it easier to perform the role, such as:

· Good communicative skills

· Being able to formulate strategy and vision

· Sufficient financial insight to be able to oversee (strategic) choices

· Consistency to promote & monitor the policy and vision of HC Ares

· Ability to express and convey 'the story' and thus the vision

· Be able to represent HC Ares both internally and externally

· Affinity with boards and management

· Being able to lead groups of people, coach positively

· Good interaction with volunteers and employees

· Flexible attitude and stress-resistant

· Curiosity to 'feel' what is going on within the club

The most important competencies involved are:

· Collegiality: supporting and helping other board and committee members

· Communicate: being able to convey your story clearly; oral and written

· Empathy: being able to empathize with someone else and understand their emotions

· Leadership: directing other people to achieve a goal together

· Strategic thinking: devising alternative paths and solutions, recognizing patterns and problems

· Stress resistance: remaining calm in chaotic and stressful situations
