As a market coordinator, you lead an enthusiastic team of volunteers and contribute to the sales and visibility of handmade crafts from Uganda.

About Talking Hands Foundation

Talking Hands Foundation is committed to supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda, with a special focus on education, inclusion, and equal opportunities. We believe in a world where everyone has the opportunity to develop their potential and build an independent and dignified life.

To help fund our projects, we sell unique handmade products created by deaf women in Uganda. These talented artisans craft beautiful bags, skirts, baskets, wallets, belt bags, stuffed toys, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets using local, natural materials and colourful African fabrics.

Each product tells its own creative and cultural story. Through these sales, we support educational programmes for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young people in Uganda while also creating employment opportunities and economic empowerment for deaf women.

What will you do?

As a market coordinator, you ensure that our participation in markets runs smoothly and contribute to the visibility and sales of our handmade products.

You will:

  • coordinate sales activities at markets and events;
  • lead, inform, and support volunteers;
  • register Talking Hands for markets and organise practical preparations;
  • arrange transport of materials and products to and from markets;
  • restock products for markets based on sales;
  • keep track of income, inventory, and materials;
  • support the promotion of market participation through social media.

Who are we looking for?

You:

  • are motivated to contribute to a meaningful cause and enjoy coordinating and supporting volunteers;
  • are proactive, motivated, and enjoy taking responsibility;
  • enjoy planning and organising and can independently manage practical tasks;
  • are sociable and know how to motivate and inspire others.

Time commitment

Approximately 4 hours per week on average. During the market season (summer and in the lead-up to Christmas), the time commitment may be slightly higher than during quieter periods of the year.
