Do you want to work for the Dutch Red Cross at a national level? And would you like to work on your administrative and communication skills by strengthening and representing the Red Cross youth network together with other board members? The National Youth Commission is looking for new members from August 2023!
The National Youth Commission is looking for candidates for the following positions:

What is the National Youth Commission?
The National Youth Commission (NJC) of the Red Cross strengthens the youth network in the Netherlands and supports young volunteers. The NJC represents young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who work for the Red Cross at the state, district and local levels. The committee participates in the implementation of national policy and the Youth Strategy. Finally, the NJC maintains contact with the national and international network, organizes events and develops projects for young volunteers.
What are you going to do?
As a member of the National Aid committee of the National Youth Committee of the Dutch Red Cross, you identify trends and needs among young people and work together with enthusiastic young volunteers to translate this to different levels in the organization. Does this sound like something for you? Then this challenging function might be something for you!
- You organize meetings (free in form and method) with young volunteers to find out what they encounter within the assistance and what help they identify among young people seeking help.
- You study and analyze the needs of young people in the Netherlands by reading up on trends, news articles and research.
- You represent young volunteers by advising on the development, implementation and quality of Red Cross aid within the National Aid cluster of the Association Office.
- You keep an overview of national youth projects initiated by young volunteers or student desks. Think of student desk projects such as the podcast 'Red Cross Mental Health' (on Spotify).
- You advise student desks about new projects they want to set up, so that these projects fit within the Red Cross strategy and the needs of young people seeking help.
- You maintain relationships within the Red Cross association office and the districts to be aware of the assistance that the Red Cross offers and develops.
- You work together with the National Help cluster of the Association Office. The form of the cooperation will be determined in mutual consultation.
Who are you?
- You are between 18 and 30 years old.
- You are enterprising and creative in identifying needs and challenges among young volunteers and you can translate these into concrete actions.
- You have strong organizational skills to facilitate and coordinate meetings, and to keep an overview of various projects and initiatives.
- You have good communication and social skills to easily connect with young volunteers and other stakeholders within the districts and the Red Cross Association Office.
- You are motivated to get to know the strategy of the Red Cross and to discover which aid is being developed and implemented in the Netherlands.
- You have an affinity with young people and involving young people in the Red Cross.
- You speak and write Dutch well and you are comfortable speaking and writing in English.
- You are able to meet with the National Youth Committee at least twice a month (online or physically in Utrecht, travel expenses will be reimbursed).
- You are available 6-8 hours a week in the period August 2023 to July 2024. The working hours can be arranged flexibly.

- An influential position within the non-profit sector, in which you can influence the strategy and projects of the Dutch Red Cross through the Youth Committee and thus have a positive impact on society.
- Knowledge about national and international (emergency) aid, international humanitarian law, crisis management and the seven basic principles of the Red Cross.
- The possibility to follow a first aid course free of charge and to get your certificate.
