Who is Mr.?
Our client is a friendly gentleman in his eighties. Due to a brain hemorrhage and an accident, he is now struggling with brain damage and vascular dementia. He is a quiet man who enjoys the little things: having a chat, sitting in the garden together, doing a puzzle, or being creative with painting.
Why your visit is so important
The gentleman lives with his wife. The care is intensive for her. When she goes to choir or wants to exercise, she finds it comforting and reassuring to have a pleasant companion with him. This way, she can recharge with peace of mind, while the gentleman has a nice evening.
What are you going to do?
It is primarily about companionship and proximity . Because the gentleman is at risk of falling, the activities usually take place in and around the house.
• Doing activities together : Painting, doing puzzles, or having a good conversation.
• Enjoy the peace and quiet : Sitting comfortably in the garden or having a cup of coffee together.
• When : Preferably at fixed times, such as Monday evenings .
Who are we looking for?
• You are patient and have a calm demeanor.
• You enjoy motivating someone (for example, to pick up a paintbrush again).
• Experience with dementia is a plus, but a warm heart is more important.
• Both students and older volunteers are very welcome! The gentleman indicates that he talks easily with women, but a male buddy is certainly welcome as well.
What do we offer?
A very rewarding place where you contribute directly to the quality of life of both the gentleman and his wife. You will join a warm couple and receive support from our organization.
