Looking for a volunteer who wants to walk in nature with Henk and have a bite to eat with him.

Who is Hank?

Henk is an elderly man with a severe intellectual disability and visual impairment. He also has autism. This is easy to guide. Henk does not talk, but does let you know through sounds whether he likes or dislikes something, by laughing loudly or by shouting. He sometimes takes the hand of the guidance to make something clear. It's the little things you see; a smile, his enthusiasm. You have to learn to see these things with him. He can walk short distances, longer distances he is in a wheelchair. He eats and drinks independently, but needs guidance in this. He enjoys the sandbox, goes horseback riding every Tuesday and likes to take a bath. He has daytime activities every day, except on Tuesdays, where he regularly cycles on his tricycle.

What is Hank asking?

It would be nice for Henk if there is someone who comes especially for him. This could be once a week, once every two weeks or once a month. Someone who likes to go out in nature with Henk. Peaceful walks and a bite to eat. Someone who has experience with visual impairment and autism, or is open to delving into this. His supervisors can tell you more about this. Henk really likes the sandbox, it might be nice to find out together whether a beach is just as nice for him.

Thanks to the many volunteers of 's Heeren Loo, we can organize extra activities and fulfill personal attention and wishes for clients. Think of taking a walk, playing a game or just having a good conversation while enjoying a cup of coffee.
