Who is Manuela?
Manuela is a 21-year-old young woman with a moderate intellectual disability. She lives in a residential group at our residential care park, where she receives 24-hour guidance and care. She is friendly and talks well. You can compare her verbally with someone aged 8 to 10 years, but emotionally with someone aged 1.5 years. She may feel scared and insecure. In this she seeks your closeness. Manuela likes listening to music, cycling, swimming and gymnastics! She does the latter at an association in the center where people with disabilities can do gymnastics under supervision on Tuesdays between 18:00 and 20:00.
What is Manuela asking?
We are looking for a volunteer who can go to that gymnastics night with Manuela once or twice a month.
Due to the group pressure, it is not (always) possible for her supervisors to go with her. That's why a volunteer is very welcome! She would like to go to gymnastics twice a month, but once a month would also be very nice. In good weather this can be done by bike, Manuela can cycle well under supervision. And in bad weather, perhaps by car if the volunteer has one. The costs incurred will be reimbursed. Manuela can dress and undress independently, but will still need your closeness in the beginning. You don't have to participate in gymnastics, but you can watch. Afterwards she must be taken back to her group. 2 hours a month is a lot of fun for her!
We are looking for a volunteer who can provide frameworks and clarity to her. Of course you will be updated on this by her supervisors.
