Enthusiastic board member PR, marketing & communication
Mineke Foundation is a foundation with both Liberian and Dutch roots. Our brand awareness is growing in Liberia because of the quality of our projects, but in the Netherlands this is limited. We see two challenges here:
1) Increasing our brand awareness and connecting more people to our work.
This means, among other things, proactively looking for opportunities to profile the foundation with the additional aim of recruiting more donors, volunteers and sponsors.
2) Coordinating external communication.
This includes:
o Co-preparing and monitoring the timely production of newsletters (3-4x), news flashes (4-6x) and annual reports and implementing improvements where necessary.
o Being a sparring partner for our social media marketing volunteers in the Netherlands and Liberia
o Advising on and further developing our overall communication strategy and ensuring that the various communication channels are well coordinated
o Review and update website texts
o Contributing to qualitative reports to funders
o Maintaining contacts with our teams and external media
When do you fit well in our team?
If you:
- Have a hands-on attitude
- Are a self-starter & independent worker
- You speak Dutch fluently and your English is good
- Have a learning attitude and are willing to learn from our team in Liberia as well as transfer knowledge to them
- A skilled networker who has or can realize access to different media and target groups
- Good at advising, coordinating, organizing and collaborating
- Interested and able to work effectively in a small remote first organization with big ambitions and a small wallet
- Want to use your skills and experience to make an impact in one of the poorest countries in the world.
Good to know
Mineke Foundation consists of 2 organizations:
- The Liberian local NGO in Liberia that we internally call MF LIB. MF LIB is a fully accredited local NGO in Liberia, as well as a fully accredited vocational school and primary school.
- The Dutch ANBI foundation that we internally call MF NL. MF NL is the support foundation of MF LIB (fundraising, communication, etc.) and also takes care of the knowledge transfer and development of MF LIB.
The board of MF NL is a cooperative board. That means you are active as a volunteer with a few extra tasks. Namely: coordination of and coordination with the volunteer(s) in 'your' portfolio and joint responsibility for the further development of our organisation.
The board meets physically twice a year somewhere centrally in the Netherlands. If necessary, additional digital consultations will take place. Board and volunteers in the Netherlands also meet twice a year, following the physical board meetings.
There are also 2 times in the year when MF NL has group meetings via Zoom with MF LIB. In addition, you will have (digital) coordination moments with 'your' volunteer(s) and/or team members in Liberia.
How much time does this take?
We estimate 1-2 days per month.
What do we offer you?
- The opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children, young people and women in one of the poorest countries in the world
- A pioneering role in the further development and professionalization of a distinguished foundation
- Working together with a motivated and involved team
- An international network of professionals
Interested?
We would like to meet you!

== The Damiefa School offers affordable private education from kindergarten through the first three years of high school. We use the national Liberian curriculum, supplemented with an Art Education program developed by Dutch/American teachers and a Reading Comprehension program specifically developed for Liberia by American teachers. Our ambition is to grow the school into a full-fledged high school.
== Our Womenâs Club offers an entrepreneurship program and a social education program. The entrepreneurship program includes short vocational courses, business training & coaching, and microloans. The educational program offers monthly workshops on topics such as (reproductive) health, womenâs rights, leadership and sexual violence against women. There is also a savings club with peer-to-peer lending.
== The Resource Center is a multifunctional space with a small library/computer room where employability training for young people is also given. Before Covid, we also offered digital skills training to surrounding schools and (young) adults in the area. We will offer this again in due course.

Mineke Foundation is an award-winning foundation known for its quality and professionalism. We are an accredited local Liberian NGO, vocational school and private school. A small, committed and motivated local team carries out our projects in Liberia.
The Dutch foundation consists of international volunteers and supports our team in Liberia, including fundraising, social media & communication and knowledge transfer. Both teams work closely together.
Our fun and enthusiastic volunteers will make you feel at home quickly! We all work from home and have regular Zoom calls, also with our team in Liberia. Volunteers living in the Netherlands usually meet twice a year. Good to know: we speak both Dutch and English, but usually speak English during calls & meetings.
Mineke Foundation was founded in 2009 by Tonia Dabwe to build on the work her parents started in Liberia in the late 1960s. The foundation is named after Tonia's Dutch mother who has been missing since the civil war in Liberia.
