Summary

We are looking for a hands-on volunteer to improve and expand our communication.

Detailed description

Mineke Foundation will start several social enterprises in Liberia this year, where we offer students vocational and entrepreneurship education through on-the-job training. The social enterprises originated in part from the professional & business training that we provided between 2015 – 2020.

Our work is financed by private donors, funds and organizations, mainly from the Netherlands. Our communication expressions have so far been quite limited and ad hoc (we do it "on the side"). We are therefore looking for a communication advisor to improve and further expand this.

Our goals:

  • increase the awareness, good reputation and goodwill of Mineke Foundation, which leads to more donors, sponsors, financiers and cooperation partners
  • inform interested parties about our work
  • accountability to funds and donors
  • comply with the ANBI rules

Tasks

Develop a communication plan with at least the following points:

  • identification of MF's target groups, including in the Netherlands, abroad and interested parties via social media
  • which - mandatory or not - communication is needed when for which target group?
  • drawing up communication planning for the above & monitoring deadlines

Execution of communication policy

  • preparing newsletters and non-financial annual reports of Mineke Foundation. We make a distinction between the annual report for our organization in the Netherlands (extensive) and in Liberia (limited, derived from the Dutch annual report).
  • prepare non-financial reports to funds on financed projects. (You will receive the financial information.)
  • support relationship management with funds, donors and answering questions about our work
  • preparing interim news flashes and/or other communications, based on the communication plan to be drawn up by you
  • drafting various communication documents, such as sponsor brochures
  • possibly: drafting press releases for communication or PR in Liberian or Dutch media
  • sporadically: adjusting texts for our website (no technical knowledge required)

In any case, you work together with:

  • the social media volunteer for LinkedIn and Facebook
  • the project leaders of the various activities in Liberia and the volunteers involved outside Liberia
  • the volunteer for our email marketing
  • the volunteer sponsorship
  • the treasurer
  • from time to time also with our external fundraiser

Time use

10-12 hours a month. At the beginning you will spend a little more time to get to know us well.

Requirements

  • You have previous experience as a communication consultant and you are hands-on
  • You speak English and Dutch
  • You take initiative, think in possibilities and are not easy to catch
  • You take responsibility for properly performing this role
  • You like the challenge of working with a small organization and budget
  • An advantage is experience with (working in) African or other non-Western countries

About Mineke Foundation

Mineke Foundation works in Liberia. Our goal is to help people - especially young people and women - to become economically self-reliant. We focus on education and entrepreneurship. We have three projects:

== The Damiefa School offers affordable private education from kindergarten through the first three years of high school. We use the national Liberian curriculum, supplemented with an Art Education program developed by Dutch/American teachers and a Reading Comprehension program specifically developed for Liberia by American teachers. Our ambition is to grow the school into a full-fledged high school.

== Our Women’s Club offers an entrepreneurship program and a social education program. The entrepreneurship program includes short vocational courses, business training & coaching, and microloans. The educational program offers monthly workshops on topics such as (reproductive) health, women’s rights, leadership and sexual violence against women. There is also a savings club with peer-to-peer lending.

== The Resource Center is a multifunctional space with a small library/computer room where employability training for young people is also given. Before Covid, we also offered digital skills training to surrounding schools and (young) adults in the area. We will offer this again in due course.

Check our Facebook page for recent updates: www.facebook.com/MinekeFoundation

Mineke Foundation is an award-winning foundation known for its quality and professionalism. We are an accredited local Liberian NGO, vocational school and private school. A small, committed and motivated local team carries out our projects in Liberia.

The Dutch foundation consists of international volunteers and supports our team in Liberia, including fundraising, social media & communication and knowledge transfer. Both teams work closely together.

Our fun and enthusiastic volunteers will make you feel at home quickly! We all work from home and have regular Zoom calls, also with our team in Liberia. Volunteers living in the Netherlands usually meet twice a year. Good to know: we speak both Dutch and English, but usually speak English during calls & meetings.

Mineke Foundation was founded in 2009 by Tonia Dabwe to build on the work her parents started in Liberia in the late 1960s. The foundation is named after Tonia's Dutch mother who has been missing since the civil war in Liberia.
