Committed treasurer & controller (board member)

Our current treasurer took over a company a few months ago and travels a lot. Because he can no longer devote the time and attention to Mineke Foundation that is necessary, he unfortunately had to decide to resign from his duties as of May 1, 2023.

Mineke Foundation is therefore looking for a controller & treasurer to manage the checks and balances of our foundation's work in both the Netherlands and Liberia as well as to further build the financial knowledge of our team in Liberia.

Treasurership at Mineke Foundation

Mineke Foundation is in development again after the corona pandemic. At the moment there are 2 projects running and we expect 2 more to be added this year. On the one hand, this requires good financial arrangements (including administration and reports) and, on the other hand, thorough checks & balances and advice to our team. Our treasurer is the driving force behind this.

Concrete tasks are in any case:

• Monitoring and advising on the (progress of the) projects in Liberia based on a business economic analysis & budgets
• Ensure that the financial checks & balances in Liberia are in order and also test/verify this
• Co-preparation of organizational and project budgets and financial (progress) reports for board, funds and fundraising
• Prepare annual accounts for Liberia and the Netherlands and monitor annual audit in Liberia
• Align with/advise Team Coordinator Liberia on strategic financial matters
• Alignment with/advising Admin & Finance Officer Liberia on financial operations
• Contributing to increasing knowledge of strategic financial insight and management among the team in Liberia
• (Further) development of solid financial management and control in Liberia

When do you fit well in our team?

If you:

• Have a hands-on attitude
• Are a self-starter & independent worker
• Fluent Dutch and good English speaking, reading and writing
• You are able to explain (complex) financial matters at MBO level
• Thinks in opportunities and possibilities
• You have extensive experience in the field of the planning cycle and business economic issues. If you have gained this experience in a small organization, that is an advantage!
• Get along with cultural differences
• Have a learning attitude and are willing to learn from our team in Liberia as well as transfer knowledge to them
• Interested and able to work effectively in a small remote first organization with big ambitions and a small wallet
• Want to use your skills and experience to make an impact in one of the poorest countries in the world

Note: this task has many ad hoc features, such as questions from Liberia that need answers within a day.

Good to know

Mineke Foundation consists of 2 organizations:

• The Liberian local NGO in Liberia that we internally call MF LIB. MF LIB is a fully accredited local NGO in Liberia, as well as a fully accredited vocational school and primary school.
• The Dutch ANBI foundation that we internally call MF NL. MF NL is the support foundation of MF LIB (fundraising, communication, etc.) and also takes care of the knowledge transfer and development of MF LIB.

The board of MF NL is a cooperative board. This means that you are active as a volunteer with a number of additional administrative duties. Namely: coordination of and coordination with the volunteer(s) in 'your' portfolio and joint responsibility for the further development of our organisation.

The board meets physically twice a year somewhere centrally in the Netherlands. If necessary, additional digital consultations will take place. Board and volunteers in the Netherlands also meet twice a year, following the physical board meetings.

There are also 2 times in the year when MF NL has group meetings via Zoom with MF LIB. In addition, you will have (digital) coordination moments with 'your' volunteer(s) and/or team members in Liberia.

How much time does this take?

We estimate approx. 2 days per month.
