10 december is de internationale Dag van de Mensenrechten, door heel Nederland worden er deze dag schrijfmarathons georganiseerd.
Door hele ladingen brieven te schrijven gaan we proberen meer aandacht te genereren voor mensen die zijn gemarteld om wat ze geloven, die gediscrimineerd worden om wie ze zijn, die gedwongen werden te trouwen of vastgezet werden omdat ze voor hun mening uitkwamen.
Door deze brieven te schrijven komt er druk op de autoriteiten voor gerechtigheid!
Speciaal voor de schrijfmarathon zal Peyman Amiri (University of Amsterdam / Universiteit van Amsterdam) een korte lezing verzorgen. Amiri is PhD onderzoeker aan de Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. Zijn onderzoek richt zich op machtsverhoudingen in gevangenissen in de jaren 80 in Turkije en Iran. Met zijn lezing wil hij een kritische houding nemen tegen over mensenrechten: Who counts as human and what is a right? Hoe is er in de jaren 80 in Turkije en Iran met mensenrechten omgegaan en wat is de situatie van politieke gevangenen in deze landen vandaag de dag? Let op: deze lezing is in het Engels!

December 10th is the International day of the Human Rights. Thoughout all of the Netherlands writings marathons are organized on this day.
By writing a bunch of letters, we try to generate more attention for people who are being tortured for what they believe in, who are discrimated for who they are, who are forced to get married or people who are held in prison because they stood up for their opinion.
By writing these letters, there is pressure on the autorities for justice!
Peyman Amiri is PhD researcher at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis. His rPhD research analyses the power dynamics within prison spaces of 1980s Turkey and Iran, where oppression of socio-political upheavals by authoritarian regimes had amassed a massive population of political prisoners. In his lecture, Amiri will problematize the notion of human rights based on its exclusive aspects. Who counts as human and what is a right? Amiri will illustrate an image of the inhuman situation in 80s Turkey and Iran and present some information about the current conditions in both countries regarding political prisoners.
