We are looking for a man who has the time and space to invest in 2 teenage boys / refugees who sometimes miss a fatherly contact. Is that you?

Who are we?

Refugee Under the Roof (VOD) stands up for the interests of refugees whose first request for asylum has been rejected. The Dutch government no longer offers them shelter and support is discontinued. Thousands of asylum seekers are thrown out on the streets every year. Often ill and traumatized, without facilities, while it often turns out that they can still qualify for a residence permit. VOD is making a strong case for these refugees in Wageningen and the surrounding area, with a large number of volunteers.

Who are we looking for?

For two teenage boys (from a family with a single mother) we are looking for a male buddy, who can regularly make time to do something fun with them, build a trusting relationship and sometimes take on the fatherly role that they to miss.

As a buddy, you meet with the boys at least twice a month and then see what you are going to do together. The most fun is if you connect to the hobbies and interests of the boys, but you can also introduce them to new sports, activities and events. The boys go to secondary school and speak good Dutch. But it has not always been easy given all the uncertainty they are in now. Someone who can help build their confidence, motivate them to take initiatives and occasionally have a good conversation with them is what they need.

If necessary, you provide VOD with information about the needs of the boys where VOD can help or mediate. Or if you notice that there are certain things going on in the family that require support. You can keep in touch with the buddy coordinator about the well-being of the refugees and you can go for guidance and questions. We also regularly organize drinks or other meetings so that buddies and volunteers can exchange experiences with each other.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Wants to work for refugees, undocumented migrants and Refugee Under the Roof;
  • Is social and can listen well;
  • Is available for about 1 year and can therefore take the time to build up a relationship of trust;
  • Have a few hours to spare once or twice a month.

We offer:

  • An interesting work experience and enrichment of your CV and life;
  • A small, close and motivated team of volunteers;
  • Pleasant, open working environment with plenty of room for your own input;
  • A volunteer contract, insurance and expense allowance.

Got excited? We would like to hear from you!
