As a market coordinator, you manage an enthusiastic team of volunteers and contribute to the sales and visibility of handmade crafts from Uganda.
About Talking Hands Foundation
The Talking Hands Foundation is committed to deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda, with a special focus on education, inclusion, and equal opportunities. We believe in a society where everyone has the opportunity to develop and build an independent and dignified life.
To make our projects possible, we sell unique, handmade products made by deaf women in Uganda. These talented artisans create bags, skirts, baskets, wallets, fanny packs, soft toys, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, among other things, from local, natural materials and colorful African fabrics.
Each product tells its own creative and cultural story. With the proceeds, we support educational programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young people in Uganda. At the same time, we create additional employment and economic opportunities for deaf women.
What are you going to do?
As a market coordinator, you ensure that our participation in markets runs smoothly and contribute to the visibility and sales of our handmade products.
You:
- coordinates sales at markets and events;
- manages, informs, and supports volunteers;
- Registers Talking Hands for markets and arranges the practical preparation;
- organizes the transport of materials and products to and from the markets;
- replenishes stock for markets based on what has been sold;
- keeps clear records of income, inventory, and materials;
- assists with the promotion of market participation via social media.
Who are we looking for?
You:
- want to dedicate yourself to a good cause and enjoy guiding and coordinating volunteers;
- are motivated, proactive, and enjoy taking responsibility;
- enjoys planning and organizing and takes on practical tasks independently;
- You are sociable and know how to inspire and motivate others.
Spending of time
On average about 4 hours per week. During the market season (summer and in the run-up to Christmas), the effort can be somewhat higher than during the quieter periods of the year.
