Legal advisor

Refugees in the Netherlands end up in complicated procedures that can sometimes take years. A lot is asked of them and people are not yet familiar with the laws and regulations in the Netherlands. Volunteers from the Council for Refugees provide information and support in legal, asylum-related matters.

Job description

Common tasks are:

• Explain and provide information about the asylum procedure
• Perform flight story analysis
• Initiating, monitoring and guiding applications for family reunification
• Maintain contact with lawyers, COA, IND and other authorities
• Informing and assisting with return, onward migration or starting a new procedure
• Explaining letters and forms clients receive
• Answering (legal) questions from refugees during office hours

• Mastery of the Dutch language in word and writing
• Respectful and patient attitude towards clients
• Integrity in handling (confidential) information
• Able to work independently and in a team
