For which grade is the internship?
Grade 1 (4 hours per week on Thursday: 150 hours minimum per internship period)
Grade 2 (3 to 4 hours per week on Friday: 120 hours at least per internship period) In consultation more hours per week possible.
Tasks of a mentor in primary education
A home mentor supports a child with the following skills:
- being busy with a task without being distracted
- learn to systematically classify different tasks: first this, then that
- honour existing commitments
- ask for help
- work on the learning material provided by the teacher
- maintain regular contact with the teacher
- learning study skills
- learn to plan homework
- learn to familiarize the pupil in the new secondary school
- agenda management
- talk about social behavior in the classroom or at home
- serve as a counselor to whom a child can lean
- involve the parents in the educational life of their child and school
- keep in touch with the teacher
- helping the student to enjoy learning
- discovering and stimulating talents with the student
- stimulate parents to be curious about the school life of their child
- offer the parents handles to support their child
- helping the parents to engage with their children in language-enhancing language on a daily basis
- advise the parents on, for example, eating behavior, dealing with money
- advise the parents on where they can get support or advice
Tasks of a mentor in secondary education
- helping the student with the school work in preparation for the exam
- emotionally support the student in increasing self-confidence, motivation and study discipline
- help reduce study backlogs
- guide the student through a well-considered choice for an MBO vocational course
- involve the parents in this
- encourage pupils to orient themselves more outside their own circle and neighborhood
- helping the student find an internship
- maintain regular contact with the class mentor
Desired profile
Prepare to complete the counseling process with the child (at least one year)
Reliable, socially skilled, flexible, independent, patient, empathetic and representative
Good command of the Dutch language (oral and written)
Sufficient math skills
Flexibility is requested with regard to working hours and work location (usually at the children's home)
Working hours are by definition after school, so usually at the end of the working day (not guaranteed on your internship day)
Willingness to travel throughout the city is a requirement
