Summary

A mentor is a legal representative in decisions about housing, welfare, care and nursing of vulnerable clients.

Detailed description

We are looking for mentors for various clients who can help make decisions about care, nursing, treatment and guidance.

Do you want to make a difference for one of our clients? Are you a good communicator? Are you independent and honest? Then mentoring is for you.

What does a mentor do?

A mentor is a legal representative and advocate for people who are unable to stand up for themselves in the area of care and welfare. These include people with dementia, psychiatric disorders or an intellectual disability.

A mentor is someone who regularly visits his client, gets to know him and knows what he likes and finds important. But also someone who can make decisions in the area of care and welfare, which the client himself cannot make because he does not understand them or cannot foresee the consequences of his decisions.

A mentor is a volunteer who...

  • can communicate well
  • is enterprising
  • is skilled in decision-making and action
  • is independent and honest
  • can set boundaries
  • is prepared to work in a user-friendly electronic client file
  • preferably has a healthcare-related education (at least MBO 4)

A certificate of good conduct is part of the procedure.

Mentorship Foundation Overijssel Gelderland

Stichting Mentorschap Overijssel Gelderland advises and supports in finding a mentor (legal representative) for people who are unable to stand up for themselves and have no family or others to fall back on. The subdistrict court judge then establishes a mentorship, which is carried out by the volunteer under the responsibility of Stichting Mentorschap Overijssel Gelderland. We carefully look for the right match between mentor and client, whereby the wishes of both are the starting point. Good mentorship is expressed in a combination of professional quality and personal attention.

We offer:

Valuable and responsible volunteer work with personal contact, room for your own input, flexible hours, training, guidance and support, (social) work experience on your CV, an expense allowance. It is an exciting volunteer position with a 'bite'.

Education

After an introductory meeting with one of the coordinators, the mentor follows a one-day basic course. By completing this basic course, the volunteer is sufficiently equipped to start as a mentor.

Throughout the year, volunteers can participate in a wide range of training courses and theme meetings to broaden or deepen their knowledge.

Time spent:

The working hours can be flexibly divided, in consultation with the client. During the day or in the evening, during the week or in the weekend? You have the choice yourself. Average time spent is 8 - 10 hours per month.
