What is the National Youth Commission?

The National Youth Commission (NJC) of the Red Cross strengthens the youth network in the Netherlands and supports young volunteers. The NJC represents young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who work for the Red Cross at the state, district and local levels. The committee participates in the implementation of national policy and the Youth Strategy. Finally, the NJC maintains contact with the national and international network, organizes events and develops projects for young volunteers.

What are you going to do?

As a Communication & Events committee member of the National Youth Committee of the Dutch Red Cross, you ensure that the voice of young volunteers is heard through various communication channels. In addition, you contribute to strengthening the youth network by organizing events for young volunteers. Does this sound like something for you? • You manage, create content for and improve the national communication channels of the National Youth Commission, including the LinkedIn, Instagram, youth website and intranet page.
• You provide the national Red Cross newsletter and magazine Henry+ with updates on behalf of the National Youth Commission and relevant information for young volunteers within the Dutch Red Cross.
• You represent the voice of young people within communication channels of the Association Office by advising them on the target group of young people in content development (Tiktok, Youtube, Photos).
• You are the driving force and coordinator for the organization of the National Youth Day for young Red Cross volunteers. You organize this day in collaboration with team events, communication advisor, national youth advisor of the Association Office and the other committee members of the National Youth Commission.
• You organize a number of national meetings (physical/digital) for young volunteers, for example in collaboration with the Learning & Development committee member.
• You work closely with your point of contact within the Association Office of the communication cluster.

Who are you?

• You are between 18 and 30 years old.
• You are creative and innovative to create content and come up with new ideas for events that connect with the target group of young people.
• You have good communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate effectively with young volunteers and other stakeholders.
• You are enterprising and have organizational skills to plan, coordinate and execute events and meetings.
• You have an affinity with young people and involving young people in the Red Cross.
• You speak and write Dutch well and you are comfortable speaking and writing in English.
• You are able to meet with the National Youth Committee at least twice a month (online or physically in Utrecht, travel expenses will be reimbursed).
• You are available 6-8 hours a week in the period August 2023 to July 2024. The working hours can be arranged flexibly.

• Knowledge about national and international (emergency) aid, international humanitarian law, crisis management and the seven basic principles of the Red Cross.
• The possibility to follow a first aid course free of charge and to get your certificate.
