Are you doing well and do you want to give something back to society? Or do you have spare time and do you want to use it in a meaningful way? At the Humanitas department Maastricht-Heuvelland there is currently room for expansion of volunteers as a buddy and that is why we are looking for you to strengthen our team as:
Volunteer Friendly Contact
Everyone needs contact. However, there are circumstances in which a person loses contact with the environment. The Humanitas project Friendliest Contact breaks through this loneliness and offers support in (re)building a social network. The approach is accessible, personal and temporary.
The function:
With one-on-one contact with the participant, you as a volunteer break through the social isolation of the other person and you give him or her something to look forward to. From an equal basis you build a social network for the participant together, by leaving the initiative with the participant as much as possible. Company, conviviality and undertaking everyday things are central. The volunteer supports the participant by mainly listening and encouraging. You focus on increasing the self-confidence of the participant. Sometimes you can also offer practical help by going for a walk together, shopping together or attending a hospital visit.
What do we ask:
As a volunteer…
- Are you someone who loves people and likes to take the first step to contact;
- Are you positive, enterprising and can you create a good atmosphere?
- Stand firm and set your limits;
- Are you a stable personality to which the participant can mirror himself (role model);
- Do you have empathy and respect for the participant's living situation;
- Are you reliable and keep your promises;
- Are you willing to put in about 2 hours as a buddy once a week?
What do you get in return:
- Interesting and meaningful challenge in your spare time;
- Member of a dynamic organization and team;
- Mandatory and periodic training that applies to the target group;
- Individual guidance from a coordinator;
- Accident and third-party insurance;
- Travel and expense allowance, no parking allowance.
