Friendship between young people with and without disabilities
definition
Do you enjoy helping young people with a mild intellectual or physical disability? Do you really want to make a difference in society? Then become Buddy and befriend a young person with a disability [up to 35 years]. You will see that this is an enrichment of life for the Buddy, but that this friendship will also be of great meaning to you.
What are [Buddies] doing?
Together with your Buddy you will do fun, fun, exciting or relaxing activities. Close to home, watch a movie or series, do crafts or bake something delicious. Enjoy sports together outside or to a show. How about a visit to an amusement park or go to a party together.
You give meaning to the friendship together. Just do what suits you and what you both feel like. You make good agreements with each other in advance and everyone pays for themselves.
Do you unfortunately no longer belong to the age of the target group (16 – 35 years), but would you like to mean something to this target group? Then become a Friendship Coach at [Buddies]. You support the regional manager and you conduct intake interviews, you make and supervise couples and you supervise intervision and group meetings.
Why is a buddy needed?
For many people, fun activities with friends are a matter of course. Pleasant shopping, an evening at the cinema or sports a fixed evening during the week. Unfortunately, doing these kinds of 'obvious' activities does not apply to everyone. Young people with a mild mental or physical disability often do not have a boyfriend and/or girlfriend with whom they do fun activities. In addition, it is difficult for them to enter into social contacts on their own.

[Buddies] gives these young people the opportunity to form friendships and thus participate in social activities.

Voor veel jongeren is vriendschap niet vanzelfsprekend. Jongeren met een beperking vinden het moeilijk om een sociaal leven op te bouwen. Voor jongeren met een lichamelijke beperking is het logistiek vaak lastig om zelf op pad te gaan en zich onder andere jongeren te mengen en jongeren met een licht verstandelijke beperking ervaren vaak pestgedrag, onbegrip en sociale uitsluiting. En dat terwijl vriendschap één van de meest waardevolle dingen in het leven is. Gezellig winkelen, een avondje naar de bioscoop of samen sporten. Veel van deze jongeren met een beperking geeft aan zich eenzaam te voelen.
Duurzame vriendschappen
Om eenzaamheid tegen te gaan is [Buddies] in het leven geroepen. [Buddies] streeft naar een wereld waarin iedereen gelijk is, waar niemand wordt buitengesloten en waar het heel normaal is om vrienden te zijn met iemand die net even anders is. We scheppen duurzame, gelijkwaardige vriendschappen tussen jongeren mét en zónder een beperking. Die matchen we zorgvuldig, door goed te kijken naar hun interesses en persoonlijkheden.
