Official Festive Start Cycling Buddies Apeldoorn and Surroundings

Apeldoorn is a beautiful cycling community. People who can no longer cycle independently should also benefit from this. Eight residents from the municipality have therefore set up Fietsvriends Apeldoorn en Omstreken.

For example, (almost) everyone can go out on an electrically assisted side-by-side tandem with a cycling buddy - a loved one or a cycling volunteer. You are safe and cycle according to your own ability. Your favorite route. A cup of coffee on a terrace or from your own thermos. Pleasant contact along the way.

Try out our side-by-side tandems

The start of such a new citizens' initiative is of course not possible without an official opening. On Saturday 3 September, we are organizing a festive side-by-side tandem parade between our starting locations in De Maten and Ugchelen. Will you also come and admire our side-by-side tandems?

Program:

• From 10 am: Welcome to De Egelantier with coffee/tea/sweets and test rides on our side-by-side tandems
• At 11 am: Start by alderman Willems of the festive side-by-side tandem procession with our first cycling buddy duos
• Around 12:15 pm: Reception in Ugchelen by the village council
• Until 1 pm: coffee/tea/sweets and test rides on our side-by-side tandems in the center of Ugchelen

Apeldoorn 35th ^member of a large Cycling Buddies Family

Our festive start is exactly 10 years after the establishment of the first local organization Fietsmetjes Teylingen, which will also be celebrating its anniversary on 3 September in the bulb region. There are now 35 Cycling Buddies organizations .

At and Ruud, the first cycling buddies

At (on the left in the photo) was the first to register with Bicycle buddies Apeldoorn en Omstreken. Due to Parkinson's, he can no longer cycle independently. If you haven't cycled for a long time and you have difficulty walking, a first bike ride on the side-by-side tandem is quite exciting. Once underway, his enthusiasm grew. He cycled through Bruggelen, where he used to ride his mountain bike. He also crossed his former running route. After the first ride he was over: he is going to ride side-by-side tandems more often. With his former mountain bike friend Ruud as a cycling buddy.

Straw: Just get out the door

Rietje used to not like long bike rides in her spare time. Yet she was also one of the first to sign up as a cycling buddy. She was confined to home at a fairly young age due to a cerebral infarction. She misses the freedom she had to get on her bike for an errand or to visit someone she knows. She lives outside and sometimes feels a bit isolated. She liked the test ride on the side-by-side tandem. She is looking forward to going out every week with a regular cycling buddy and getting some exercise.
