Who is Manuela?
Manuela is a young woman of 21 years with a moderate intellectual disability. She lives in a group home at our residential care park, where she receives 24-hour guidance and care. She is friendly and can talk well, but if she experiences uncertainty or if she does not get her way, she can react with aggression. However, the chance that she will react with aggression during an afternoon out is nil. Verbally you can compare her with someone aged 8 to 10, but emotionally with someone aged 1.5 years. She may feel scared and insecure. In this she seeks your proximity. Manuela loves listening to music, cycling, swimming and is crazy about gymnastics! The wish is to do this at an association in the center where people with disabilities can do gymnastics under supervision on Tuesdays between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
What does Manuela ask?
We are looking for a volunteer who can go to the gymnastics evening with Manuela once or twice a month. We are looking for a female volunteer for Manuela. Due to the group pressure, it is not (always) possible for her supervisors to go with her. That is why a volunteer is very welcome! She would like to go to gymnastics twice a month, but once a month would also be very nice. If the weather is nice, this can be done by bike, Manuela can cycle well under supervision. And in bad weather perhaps by car if the volunteer has one. The costs incurred will be reimbursed. Manuela can dress and undress independently, but will still need your proximity in the beginning. There is no need to participate in gymnastics, the volunteer can wait on location until she is finished. Afterwards she must be taken back to her group. 2 hours a month gives her a lot of pleasure!
We are looking for a volunteer who can provide frameworks and clarity to her. Of course you will be informed about this by her supervisors. Together with the supervisors, a plan is made to gradually build up the relationship of trust.
