Who is Mark?
Mark is a grown man in his late twenties. He has a mild intellectual disability, is independent in the ADL and is fully mobile. He likes to be in the presence of others and likes to socialize. He has humor, looks “normal” and is easy to be around. He is very easily satisfied and grateful. Mark is insecure and this requires the necessary guidance. The supervisors can provide handles for this. The volunteer coordinator also has more information about this.
What is Mark asking?
Mark asks for a buddy for the weekend. This can be every once in a while. Someone with a strong personality, someone who is calm, has patience and does not go along with Mark's negative emotions. With simple words and actions you can make a positive change. Mark can't entertain himself well and gets bored easily. He's not going to do something nice on his own. Hence a buddy would be nice to him. Depending on the bond you build with him as a volunteer, you can have coffee together on the property, walk in the woods, go to the cinema and many other things. However, the one time “this” will have more chance of success than “that”.
