Karel has an intellectual disability and is looking for a volunteer who can come especially for him on Wednesday afternoons, at the weekend or in the evenings.
Who is Karel?
Karel is a young man of 27 years old with a mild to moderate intellectual disability. He lives in a residential group right next to the residential care park of 's Heeren Loo, where he receives 24-hour care. His level can be compared to that of a primary school age. He understands what you say and can communicate in a normal way. Karel is completely mobile and is safe in traffic (bicycle). He can enjoy all the little things in his own way. He also enjoys 1 on 1 attention and doing activities together. He wants to do everything for you, is interested in what you have done and wants to know how you are doing. He needs time to feel comfortable with you, so that really takes time. Examples of activities that you could do with Karel are: bowling, eating an ice cream, driving around in the car, swimming, gaming and going to the cinema. But he is also good at woodworking and likes to work together on a project. Karel smokes at regular times.
What is Karel asking?
Karel asks for someone who comes by once a week, 2 weeks or a month to do fun little activities with him. Going out with him. Age and gender are less important than the click he could have with his volunteer. Someone who wants to invest in the relationship with him, so that he feels comfortable. Someone who does not want immediate results. Patience and a calm, open appearance are nice. Someone who wants to go out with him in the car, get an ice cream together, go bowling or swimming, play a game, or make a wooden project together. Just nice 1 on 1 time.
