Who is Karel?
Karel is a 21-year-old young man with a moderate intellectual disability. His level can be compared to that of a primary school age. He understands what you say and can communicate in a normal way. Karel is fully mobile and traffic safe (bicycle). He can really enjoy all the little things in his own way. He also enjoys 1 on 1 attention and doing activities together. He wants to do anything for you, is interested in what you've been up to and wants to know how you're doing. He needs time to feel comfortable with you, so that really takes time. Examples of activities you could do with Karel are: Bowling, eating an ice cream, touring in the car, swimming, gaming and going to the cinema. But he is also good at woodworking and likes to work together on a project. Karel smokes at regular intervals.
What is Karel asking?
Karel asks someone who comes by once a week, 2 weeks or a month to do fun little activities with him. Age and gender matter less than the click he might have with his volunteer. Someone who wants to invest in the relationship with him so that he feels comfortable. Someone who does not want immediate results. Patience and a calm open appearance is nice. Someone who wants to go out with him in the car, get an ice cream together, go bowling or swimming, play a game, or make a project out of wood together. Just fun 1 on 1 time.
