Summary
One day in front of the class: become a guest teacher in the primary school and teach the students everything about WaterDetailed description
More than 2 billion people worldwide do not have clean water. Together we can do something about it!
For children in the Netherlands there is always a tap nearby. You can explain to children how important that luxury of clean water is, but the message really only lands when they get to work on it themselves. Walking for Water is a combination of learning and doing. Pupils from the upper classes of primary school are taught about water issues and help children in developing countries by walking 6 kilometers with water. In this way they experience what their peers in developing countries have to experience every day. Between the guest lesson and the walk the students get the chance to raise as much money as possible for different water projects. The walk takes place on World Water Day, Wednesday 25 March 2020. Of course, this walk can also be organized on another date in the period from 25 March to the end of June 2020.
The guest lesson - one hour all about water
As a guest teacher you introduce the students to the importance of clean water worldwide in a fun interactive way. Each guest lesson lasts a maximum of one hour and takes place at least 2 weeks before the walk, so that the children have sufficient time to collect sponsor money.
What are you going to do?
We would like to ask you to give two, maximum three guest lessons in your area or at a location somewhere in the Netherlands. At the beginning of February you will receive training from us for a maximum of 2 hours. You then contact the school that you receive from us to arrange the date and time for the guest lesson. You will receive the materials for the guest lesson by e-mail from us in advance. When the day of class arrives you tell the children everything about water, our projects and you play an interactive game. Afterwards you give the students the assignment to raise money and you give tips on how they can best do this. The guest lessons take place between Monday, February 13 and Friday, May 29, 2020. Together with the teacher you hand out all the materials that the children need for collecting sponsor money, so that they can start working enthusiastically right away.
Who are you?
Experience with teaching is not necessary. However, the idea of being allowed to tell everything about water to children between 8 and 12 years old makes you completely enthusiastic! You are good at motivating children so that they collect as much money as possible from their family, grandfathers, grandmothers and friends. You are also flexible, because your guest lesson can be interrupted just like that by a fly that has invaded the class or a student who falls from his chair in amazement at your knowledge.
Who is behind Walking for Water
Walking for Water is an initiative of Amref Flying doctors, Simavi and ZOA. The aim of our cooperation is to contribute to clean water for everyone in 2030. We do this by making primary school pupils aware of the shortage of water and by having them raise money for water projects in developing countries in a fun sporting way.

What we will provide to volunteers
🤝 Extra supportAbout Wandelen voor Water
We do this by making pupils in the upper secondary school aware of the shortage of water and by having them raise money for water projects in developing countries in a fun sporting way.
Since 2003, Dutch children have raised almost € 12 million for more than 300 projects worldwide. As a result, 510,000 people in developing countries now have clean water nearby. This allows people to focus again on an independent life and children to school instead of having to walk every day for clean water.
