Come fish for litter in the city canal on September 21st during the annual cleanup. Prefer to keep your feet dry? Then you can walk to help.
On Sunday, September 21st, Wageningen Schoon will be organizing its annual canal cleanup in Wageningen; this will be the ninth edition. During this family event, young and old can fish litter out of the city canal. This way, we all contribute to a more beautiful and cleaner Wageningen. The cleanup is also a unique opportunity to take a boat trip on the city canal!
Participants can start between 10:00 and 11:30 AM from the grassy field behind the Junushoff. After an explanation of the sailing routes, safety measures, and canoeing times, participants can take turns sailing until 1:00 PM. Participation is free, and no registration is required.
Wageningen Schoon will provide canoes, life jackets, gloves, grabbers, and coffee and tea. For anyone who prefers to keep their feet dry, there will be a cleanup walk along the canal at the same time.
Plastic soup
Bottles, cans, and bags are unfortunately thrown into the canal or blown in. Plastic in water doesn't decompose but breaks down into smaller, toxic pieces. Fish and other animals eat this, ultimately entering our food chain. It's therefore especially important that litter is removed from the water in a timely manner.
