We are looking for someone who enjoys being a buddy to a young man. By practicing Dutch together, doing activities and being a listening ear.
Stichting Vluchteling Onder Dak (VOD) is a volunteer organization that focuses on the reception and support of refugees whose first application for asylum has been rejected. They no longer receive shelter or support from the government and end up on the streets. VOD takes in these people and supports them with legal and social guidance, housing and living expenses.
For a male client we are looking for a buddy. As a buddy you meet at least once a month and then you decide together what you are going to do. You can go for a walk together, eat together, go to the library, help practice the Dutch language, do a hobby.
Sometimes someone likes it when you go to the doctor or an agency together. He can also use your help to make appointments.
You help him find his way better in society. You break through social isolation and stimulate participation in society as much as possible.
You are socially involved as a buddy, for example discussing things that the client is currently dealing with and offering a listening ear.
The conversations can be about income, housing, health, education, meaningful daytime activities, making contacts, etc. You help and support him with this. Without taking over the direction.
With the buddy coordinator of VOD you keep in touch about the well-being of the refugee and you can go for guidance and questions. We have regular intervision meetings or other gatherings with the other volunteers and team of VOD.
