Become part of our market team, help out at lively markets and festivals, and support deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda with every sale.

About Talking Hands Foundation

The Talking Hands Foundation is committed to deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda, with a special focus on education, inclusion, and equal opportunities. We believe in a society where everyone has the opportunity to develop and build an independent and dignified life.

To make our projects possible, we sell unique, handmade products made by deaf women in Uganda. These talented artisans create bags, skirts, baskets, wallets, fanny packs, soft toys, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, among other things, from local, natural materials and colorful African fabrics.

Each product tells its own creative and cultural story. With the proceeds, we support educational programs for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young people in Uganda. At the same time, we create additional employment and economic opportunities for deaf women.

What are you going to do?

As a market volunteer, you help sell our unique handmade crafts at various markets and festivals. You assist with setting up and arranging the market stall, welcome visitors, tell the story behind the products, and process payments.

Together, you ensure an attractive and welcoming stand and contribute to the visibility of Talking Hands and the support of deaf people in Uganda.

You are part of an enthusiastic and committed team that takes pleasure in dedicating itself to a meaningful cause.

Who are we looking for?

You:

  • have an affinity for supporting a good cause;
  • are practically minded and customer-friendly;
  • are reliable and flexible;
  • Likes to take initiative and is pleasant to work with.

Spending of time

Your commitment is flexible and varies from a few days per year to an average of 1 to 2 days per month during the market season in the summer and in the run-up to Christmas.
