Join our market team, take part in vibrant markets and festivals, and make a difference for deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda with every sale.

About Talking Hands Foundation

Talking Hands Foundation is committed to supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda, with a special focus on education, inclusion, and equal opportunities. We believe in a world where everyone has the opportunity to develop their potential and build an independent and dignified life.

To help fund our projects, we sell unique handmade products created by deaf women in Uganda. These talented artisans craft beautiful bags, skirts, baskets, wallets, belt bags, stuffed toys, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets using local, natural materials and colourful African fabrics.

Each product tells its own creative and cultural story. Through these sales, we support educational programmes for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young people in Uganda while also creating employment opportunities and economic empowerment for deaf women.

What will you do?

As a market volunteer, you help sell our unique handmade crafts at various markets and festivals. You will help set up and arrange the market stall, welcome visitors, share the story behind the products, and process purchases.

Together, we create an attractive and welcoming stand while contributing to the visibility of Talking Hands and supporting deaf people in Uganda.

You will become part of an enthusiastic and committed team that enjoys working towards a meaningful cause.

Who are we looking for?

You:

  • are motivated to contribute to a meaningful cause;
  • are practical and customer-oriented;
  • are reliable and flexible;
  • enjoy taking initiative and working as part of a team.

Time commitment

Your involvement is flexible and can range from a few days per year to approximately 1–2 days per month during the summer market season and in the lead-up to Christmas.
