Summary

Join us at lively markets in Wageningen and the surrounding area, and support deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Uganda.

Detailed description

About Talking Hands Foundation

The Talking Hands Foundation is dedicated to supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in Uganda, with a particular emphasis on education and inclusion. We strive for a world where everyone has equal opportunities to lead an independent and dignified life.

To finance our projects, we sell unique, handmade crafts created by deaf women in Uganda. These talented artisans produce beautiful bags, skirts, baskets, wallets, fanny packs, stuffed animals, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, made from local, natural materials and vibrant African fabrics.

Each product tells its own creative and cultural story, helping to raise funds for our educational programs. In doing so, we increase employment opportunities for deaf women and support the development of deaf and hard-of-hearing youth.

What will you do?

As a market volunteer, you will assist in selling these special, handmade crafts at various markets in Wageningen and nearby areas. You’ll work as part of a friendly and dedicated team that is passionate about supporting this meaningful cause.

Desired qualities

  • You’re interested in supporting a charitable cause
  • You have a hands-on attitude and are customer-friendly
  • You’re reliable, flexible, and enjoy taking initiative

Time commitment

Your involvement can range from a few days a year to 1 or 2 days per month during the market season, typically in the summer and around Christmas.
