Tour guide at Buitenplaats Doornburgh

Stichting Buitenplaats Doornburgh in Maarssen is looking for volunteers who want to give guided tours to visitors. We are looking for volunteers who are available half a day a week and on weekends.

Do you have a passion for art, nature and architecture and do you want to expand your knowledge and share it with other enthusiasts? Buitenplaats Doornburgh is a meeting place for art and science in Maarssen aan de Vecht. In the former monastery on the estate, we offer guided tours of the priory, the manor house and the gardens. For this we are looking for enthusiastic tour guides who want to share their love for architecture and history with our visitors one day a week.

About the volunteer position:

As a tour guide at Buitenplaats Doornburgh, you take our visitors along in the story of the eighteenth-century main house and the priory (the monastery) from the 1960s. Both buildings are architecturally interesting and attract many art and architecture enthusiasts. The priory is a special work by architect Jan de Jong, who built according to the architectural rules of the Bossche School. We offer weekly guided tours of the priory and twice a month large tours, which also include a visit to the main house. The last Sunday of every month, our manager gives garden tours, for which you can also be used if you are interested.

You support the public guides by informing visitors about the exhibitions and activities. Your supervisor is the duty manager.

Friday to Sunday: Morning, Afternoon

Working hours, frequency and duration:

We expect your availability to be at least two half-days per month at the weekend.

Skills:

Who are we looking for? As a tour guide you are the calling card of Buitenplaats Doornburgh and you are the first point of contact for visitors. You know how to grab the attention of visitors and you know how to respond to interests. You have knowledge about history and architecture and a passion for storytelling. You are open to immerse yourself in our story. Experience in working in a cultural or public-oriented organization is an advantage, but not necessary. It is important that you speak Dutch fluently. Speaking English is a plus. You are service-oriented, representative and flexible. You like to work in a dynamic environment and you live in Utrecht, Maarssen or the surrounding area. A good physical condition is essential, because our country estate and the buildings are large.

Induction method and guidance:

You will be trained by one of our tour guides, you will get to know your colleagues and you will learn everything about the estate Doornburgh aan de Vecht, the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, the former monastery and the activities that we currently organize at Buitenplaats Doornburgh. .
