What do you do as a Beat Batten volunteer?
Volunteers play an important role in large and small actions that Beat Batten organizes every year throughout the country. We are therefore always looking for volunteers for various activities. For example, to be visible at events to draw attention to Batten's disease. Think of manning a stand for the sale of a drink, a t shirt, a water bottle or a fun activity. You can also support us in campaigns by raising money with a collection box or by explaining to visitors the need for research. And if you like it, slip into the Beba suit and hand out “4 Beat Batten hugs”!
Furthermore, many schools, companies, (sports) clubs or associations like to conclude their campaign for Beat Batten with the arrival of a volunteer. For example, you will receive a symbolic check, express a word of thanks on behalf of the foundation or give brief information about the disease.

Batten's disease is a rare and fatal metabolic disease in children. Batten's disease is also called a form of Child Dementia.
Children with Batten disease are apparently born healthy. They often lose their sight from the age of 5. In addition, they have to deal with epileptic seizures, but also a decrease in their muscle strength, speech, motor skills, cognitive skills and memory. Children with this disease often die between the ages of 15 and 25. A treatment to inhibit, stop or cure the disease is not yet available.
