Volunteers wanted for the Repair Café

From waste to new opportunity: the power of the Repair Café

We are looking for volunteers with repair knowledge and skills in all areas. We are looking for people who are handy with:

Clothing/textiles - Knife sharpening - Electrical appliances - Bicycles - Furniture/wooden objects.

And who enjoy sharing their knowledge with their neighbours.

In the Netherlands we throw away an awful lot. Even things that have almost nothing wrong with them, and that could be perfectly usable again after a simple repair. We need to be more careful with our stuff for the sake of the environment.

Unfortunately, repairing is no longer part of the system for many people. People no longer know how to do it. Items that would normally end up on the rubbish heap are given a second chance at a Repair Café under the motto 'you can always throw them away'. Visitors bring broken items from home. In the Café, they get to work with help to repair the items.

Meeting place De Graanhof starts a Repaircafé to carry out small repairs. Think of repairs to clothing, knives and scissors (sharpening), furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, clocks, toys etc.
