Detailed description
For our training in September 2021, we are looking for new candidates to come and do volunteer work.
Our ideal volunteer
We are looking for people with a genuine interest in the world of children and young people. As a volunteer you find it important that they can talk in confidence about everything that concerns them. Listening without judgment and with an open attitude is your strength. Sometimes a kid calls with a joke, while the next moment you're chatting about serious problems at home. In short, it is nice if you can switch quickly. You are stable in life and would like to develop further in the field of listening skills and conversation.
Do you recognize yourself in this? Then working at De Kindertelefoon might be something for you!
What we ask
In order to speak to as many children as possible, we are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit themselves at least four hours a week and who also want to invest the necessary time to keep their expertise up to standard. Most volunteers spend between four and eight hours a week on their work at De Kindertelefoon. Volunteering at De Kindertelefoon is possible during the day and in the evening, during the week and at the weekend. It is possible to work too flexibly, for example to work several half-days in a week and then not for a week.
We are mainly looking for people who want to connect with De Kindertelefoon for a longer period of time. On average, volunteers spend one to three years with us. Is a long term uncertain for you, but do you have a lot of time in the short term? Then we can see if we can still do something for each other.
What do we offer
Intensive, but enriching and meaningful. That is how most volunteers experience their work at De Kindertelefoon. It is very satisfying to be able to mean something to someone else. What is at least as important is that you can learn a lot by volunteering yourself. It enriches you as a person.
In order to speak to children and young people in the best possible way, you first go through an induction process. De Kindertelefoon offers high-quality training to actually fulfill its function as an expert discussion partner. We are proud of this. The training was developed in collaboration with Karin de Galan's School for Training. You will receive a certificate after completing the training. You can use this for job applications and to get exemptions from courses within certain study programmes.
