Eat, love & serve (during a monthly youth meal)

Every third Wednesday evening of the month, a meal is organized in De Herberg for young people who could use a free meal and some extra attention.

We are looking for permanent volunteers for these evenings who want to contribute to a good atmosphere. An atmosphere in which young people can be seen and heard.

As a volunteer at this monthly meal, you practically help with setting the tables and clearing/washing dishes after the meal. Sometimes it's nice to be able to give the chefs a helping hand with the preparation.

You are also a regular face for the young people, who can get to know you as a pleasant, committed and reliable person. You enjoy a delicious meal so that there is room for relaxed conversations and you also go home with a full stomach ;)

The meal starts at 5:30 PM. You spend about an hour before and an hour after the meal preparing and cleaning (including washing up). So from about 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.

The youth meal was created as an initiative for homeless young people, by Sant'Egidio and in collaboration with the Outreach Team of Stimenz and the De Herberg Foundation. In addition to homeless young people, the meal also attracts many young people who use outpatient care and/or a residential facility.

To be clear: as a volunteer we do not expect professional assistance from you. The youth meal is a relaxed and informal activity, where fun, meeting and a full stomach fill the program. If there is a concern for a young person or a request for help is expressed, we will work with the young person to find appropriate assistance from the organizations involved.
