Guide to the Blue Room

Around Rhenen are various nature reserves such as Blauwe Kamer, Grebbeberg, Laarsenberg, Palmerswaard and Plantage Willem 3. These areas are managed by Het Utrechts Landschap. Many people would like to visit these areas and learn more about nature, history, animals and plants that live there and how the management responds to this.

With a group of about 60 volunteers we form the Blue Chamber Committee. Among these 60 are about 15 guides. We aim for a group of around 20. Due to, among other things, relocation, jobs after study, age, the group of guides has shrunk recently. That is why we are looking for people who, as guides, would like to spend a limited number of days per year enthusiastically conveying what the nature and history of these areas has to offer. This immediately indicates the most important wishes for volunteer guides:

enthusiasm for nature; being able to deal with people; to communicate.

As a guide you will receive a volunteer contract with Utrechts Landschap and you will be provided with work clothing that makes you recognizable in the field. You will be trained in advance.

The coordinator guides guides you and you especially learn the practice of guiding. During the familiarization period you will join experienced guides. You will have the opportunity to learn specific points in practice by leading parts of an excursion yourself. While learning, you will guide different and larger parts of an excursion up to an entire excursion. Then the coordinator will decide in consultation with you whether you are "ripe" to start working as an independent guide.

We expect you to accompany about 8 excursions per year; when? you determine that yourself by registering for requested excursions.
