Reading Forces

Reading forces are volunteers who regularly read stories, poetry or articles to the elderly with some form of dementia. A reading force reads 1 x per week or 1 x per 2 weeks to a group of elderly people in a residential care center or at a day care location for the elderly. Enjoying words and language, listening to a voice, gives the elderly an incentive to talk to each other and tell stories. Being together in the group connects residents! For a group of people with dementia, singing is a welcome addition while reading aloud. The effect of music and songs on the brain and singing together is of great value for this group. People often sing well-known songs like this, the long-term memory remains intact for a long time. Singing experience is not necessary for this. It's about the friendly atmosphere. Will you help to put a smile on the faces of the residents? It is a rewarding task!

Introduction method and guidance: You receive guidance from the library by the senior specialist and by the activity supervisor in the residential care center.
