Volunteer position board members Young & Fair for sustainable youth organization as of October 1, 2022

We are looking for board members who want to give their own twist to the Young & Fair organization. The basics are in place, but we are looking for innovation. do you feel like taking on this challenge from October?

What is Young & Fair?

Young & Fair is a Dutch organization that brings fair trade and sustainability to the attention of young people, students and young professionals. In recent years we have done this under three pillars – food, fashion and finance – and through various events, festivals, workshops, guest lectures, social media and our website. A positive approach is our top priority.

It's time for a breath of fresh air...

Recently, the foundation has not had it easy (including because of corona). That is why we are looking for innovation and refreshment. A new mission, vision and objectives for Young & Fair. Are you interested in getting started with this? Do you want to build a new future for Y&F together with 4 other board members and the volunteers? Then sign up! The way is open and nothing has to stay the same (except the link with young people and sustainability of course ;-)).

What will you do as a board member?

  • Reinventing Young & Fair, with a new vision, mission and goals. You do not do this alone, but together with your fellow board members and other volunteers.
  • Develop and draw up strategic plans.
  • Making the board roles within Y&F a paid side job. For this you will look for sponsors.
  • Support and guide the volunteers within Young & Fair.
  • Collaborate with various volunteers and external organizations. Building a network in the sustainability world.
  • Learn a lot about sustainability and fair trade. And share your own knowledge about these topics.
  • Make a positive contribution to society!

The board

The board consists of five board members. The board currently meets once a week. We also occasionally work together to be able to spar with each other. But it is entirely up to you how you want to organize this. As a board, you can make agreements about this yourself.

The board is concerned with the future of the organization. It is completely open. What mission does Young & Fair have? What does the organizational structure look like? It's up to you to think about this. In addition, the board has a supporting function for the rest of the organisation. The board members guide and help various teams, such as the communication team and the HR team.

There are currently five positions on the board.

  • Chair
  • secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Communication
  • Volunteers and Organization (HR)

Below you will find an explanation per function. But here too you are free to set up the functions as you see fit.

Chair

As chairman you are the face of the organization. You guide and support the rest of the board and chair the board meetings. You make decisions and ensure that agreements are kept. In addition, you make contacts outside the foundation and you ensure great collaborations with other organizations.

secretary

As a secretary you are involved in many different tasks. First of all, as secretary you are responsible for the general mailbox and you keep in touch with external parties and volunteers. You also take minutes of board meetings, make action lists and keep the administration up to date. You also archive the administration. Do you like lists and structure? And do you have an eye for details? Then this is the board position for you.

Treasurer

As treasurer you are responsible for the finances of the foundation. You draw up the budget for the foundation and ensure that it is acted upon. You are also involved in applying for funds and the acquisition of sponsors. You support the treasurers (finance and acquisition coordinators) of other products. You are fully in control of your finances and you know exactly what goes in and out.

Communication

As a Communications board member you are ultimately responsible for the communication channels of the foundation (internal and external). You manage (the coordinator of) the communication team and offer support to the team where necessary. You are the link between the team and the board. You also deal with the communication of Young & Fair on a strategic level and you come up with ideas to put Young & Fair even more on the map!

Volunteers and Organization (HR)

As a board member of Volunteers & Organization you are involved in the HR side of the organization. You ensure the recruitment of new volunteers and you conduct introductory interviews. You are also responsible for ensuring that the structure of Young & Fair develops in line with the activities. Together with communication you take care of internal communication. You have contact with a large part of the volunteers and you organize drinks and other internal activities. You make sure everyone feels good and make Young & Fair a really cool organization! The HR team will help you implement all your plans.

What are you bringing?

  • Fresh and innovative ideas.
  • Motivation and enthusiasm.
  • You are involved in the organization and you are committed to the position.
  • Interested in sustainability and fair trade.

This is what we offer you…

  • Lots of room to try things and develop your own ideas.
  • Working together within a fun and varied team,
  • Building your network.
  • A great and educational addition to your resume.
  • The idea is to turn the board roles within Young & Fair into a paid side job. This is how you get started.

Good to know…

We are looking for a completely new board from October 2022. The idea is that you will think together about a new mission, vision and objectives and implement them. Together you are active as a board for a year. Then a new board will take over from you. This is how we keep innovation and refreshment in it.

At the moment you are not getting paid. It is, however, possible to receive a travel allowance.

Time

The volunteer positions take about 6-8 hours a week (this is flexible, one week you spend a little more time on Young & Fair than the other week). You are a board member from October 2022 to October 2023.

Are you up for the challenge of renewing Y&F?

Do you get excited about these vacancies and do you think you are the person we are looking for? We would like to see your application before September 30th.

Do you have a question? Then you can email us or send a message on Instagram.
