Detailed description
The KinderResto teaches primary school children that cooking is fun and that healthy food can be very tasty. Children who grow up in a disadvantaged situation, in particular, are often not taught basic nutrition knowledge at home. By taking the ladle in hand, children experience firsthand what it is like to really cook, to work together and to receive appreciation for your performance.
What are you going to do?
As a KinderResto volunteer at Resto VanHarte, you support the KinderResto coach in arranging and carrying out the KinderResto cooking workshop.
Through healthy and delicious cooking, the children gain knowledge about food, are introduced to a healthy lifestyle and are encouraged to work together and discover their own strengths. This is to increase self-reliance and co-reliance so that loneliness is prevented and combated.
What are your tasks and responsibilities, among others:
- Supporting the decoration of the location and the preparation of the cooking class at the location;
- Together with the KinderResto coach, guide the children in preparing a healthy meal;
- Talk to children and help them complete the assignments in the workbooks.
What do you offer us?
- You have experience with children from 8 to 14 years old and know how to inspire them for healthy food and cooking.
- You are social and friendly towards the children and your fellow volunteers. Because of your open attitude, others quickly come to you with questions. You are helpful and show attention to others.
- You are available for working hours from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and/or Thursday afternoon;

A Resto is a cozy neighborhood restaurant where everyone can join. It is the place where loneliness is exchanged for a listening ear. And all while enjoying a tasty and healthy meal. Together with our volunteers, we welcome guests at 50 locations. These are places in large and medium-sized cities where we all want to combat loneliness. Because half of the Dutch feel lonely. And we can do something about that.
The driving forces behind Resto VanHarte is a professional team of Resto Managers, Catering Managers and volunteers. They are supported by a small team at the central office in Amsterdam. Thanks to their efforts and the contributions of donors, the government and companies, Resto VanHarte organizes approximately 100,000 meetings every year! And where we can, we also organize other activities to combat loneliness.
