The Remembrance Center of Het Apeldoornsche Bosch is located in the Groot Schuylenburg residential care park.
In this permanent memorial center, stories about Het Apeldoornsche Bosch are told in various ways and current themes such as freedom, security and flights are brought to the attention.
The Remembrance Center is located in one of the former buildings of Het Apeldoornsche Bosch and is therefore linked to the location and history of the Jewish psychiatric institution of the same name. The Apeldoornsche Bosch was a thriving, modern institution that was located on the site from 1900 to January 1943. During the Second World War, the entire healthcare facility was evacuated by the German occupier in the night of 21 to 22 January. No one survived the transport. Nearly 1,300 patients and employees were murdered almost immediately in Auschwitz concentration camp.
Who were these patients and staff? The memorial center keeps the memory of them and the history of Het Apeldoornsche Bosch alive. We draw attention to Het Apeldoornsche Bosch in various ways and create awareness on themes such as anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination in the past and present. In this way we hope to contribute to a tolerant and inclusive society.
The memorial center welcomes a wide variety of visitors during opening hours, on Wednesdays and Sundays between 10:00-16:30.
Both young people, the elderly, holidaymakers, relatives, students and clients of 's Heeren Loo.
Visitors to the memorial center learn about the history of Het Apeldoornse Bosch. This has been given shape in many ways in the remembrance center.
The volunteer works independently, opens the center, receives visitors in a hospitable way and closes the center. You work in an inspiring environment.
We are looking for a hospitable person who has an interest in and affinity with the history of Het Apeldoornsche Bosch and who is an advocate of an inclusive and tolerant society.
