Listening to what the other really means and contributing in such a way that the other really feels support! You will learn that in this two-day course.
As a volunteer you like to contribute to the well-being of your fellow man and that is not always easy. During this training of two half-days you will become acquainted with a way of communicating with which you create mutual connection and thus make a difference.
You often meet people who you know need someone who believes in them and helps them without judgment. That sounds easy but it isn't. This training helps you as a volunteer to get more connected with the people you work with and to provide support that can give sustainable results in difficult situations.
Because what do you do if someone already for the fourth time does not keep the agreement and you are again faced with a closed door? You may feel annoyed - he or she can't do this! If he or she doesn't want help, well then you will help someone else!
Or you see when you enter and a new iPhone is on the table next to an overflowing ashtray, then you can't help but tell this person that she asks for it herself so much that she can't pay the rent!?
How can you connect with this person or family who is making choices that you don't understand? How can you support someone if you just can't make agreements that they keep?
Connecting communication can help you to understand and support this person in a sustainable way without losing contact with yourself. The model is simple, but the application is all the more difficult, so we will practice the theory directly with your own examples.
During this training of two half-days you will become acquainted with a way of communicating with which you create mutual connections. We often do not share what concerns us and rarely hear what the other really needs. If you learn to communicate more consciously, thereby learning to be in touch with yourself and others, you can improve the quality of that contact enormously. This creates more mutual understanding, making it easier to understand and support each other. Marshall Rosenberg is the founder of nonviolent communication and his ideas form the basis of this training.
During the first half of the day, the model of connecting communication is explained and in the second half of the day we continue with empathetic listening. We may think we are listening empathically - but did you know there are pitfalls that get in the way of connection? You will also have the opportunity to practice with examples from your own experiences as a volunteer. These two half-days are a first short introduction, the skills you gain in this training can certainly also be applied privately!
Suzanne Nederlof provides this training. She has a lot of experience as a trainer in nonviolent communication to people from all backgrounds and cultures.
Please note: the course consists of 2 mornings on 12 and 19 November. When you register, we count on you to be there both mornings.
