SJIS is offering the opportunity to mentor a child in need to assist with social and leisure activities, homework and guidance.
Detailed description
Can you become a mentor?
To become a mentor you have to comply with certain requirements.
The most important are:
- Affinity in working with (foster) children and (foster) parents;
- Willingness to help;
- Being able to deal with children and adults in their situation;
- Being available sometimes also in acute situations and on weekends.
- Being persistent, that is being able to put up with deceptions;
- Being willing to cooperate with the guiding social worker(s);
- Participation in the preparation programs to prepare your task as a mentor.

SJIS is an independent foundation, established on July 4, 2002, that is part of the judicial chain and is subsidized by the Government of St. Maarten, Ministry of Justice. The Foundation houses the Adult Probation and Family Guardianship departments.
The unit Foster Family Central is an important supporting role for the Family Guardianship department.
