From 1 to 15 August, thousands of volunteers will clear up the Dutch North Sea coast during the Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour. we do this for the 6th! year. With the size and scope of the Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour we inspire thousands of Dutch people. Together with the many participants and sponsors, we roll up our sleeves to clean up the North Sea coast. Because waste does not belong in the sea. We collect tens of thousands of kilos and together with you we reach millions of Dutch people in the month of August. Marine litter (litter at sea) and plastic pollution are a globally growing environmental problem. About 8 million tons of plastic flows into our oceans every year. This is harmful to the oceans and the many animal species that live in them. Marine mammals, birds and fish see the waste, such as pieces of plastic, caps or plastic bags, for food. They become entangled in discarded or lost nets, fishing wire and ropes. Plastic particles have since been found in 660 species living in the sea. Possible effects on human health are being investigated.
