Summary

Victim Support Netherlands helps victims and surviving relatives after a criminal offense, traffic accident, calamity or other major event

Detailed description

Assist victims to resume daily life

Victim Support Netherlands is looking for volunteers for the Zaanteken-Waterland, Kennemerland and the Kop van Noord-Holland area.

Team: General Services at Haarlem or Alkmaar location

make the difference

Victim Support Netherlands is looking for volunteers to help and support victims at various locations throughout the Netherlands. With your listening ear and practical advice you can make a difference for people who have just experienced something drastic.

Become a volunteer: offer emotional and practical support to victims

Victim Support Netherlands helps victims and surviving relatives after a criminal act, traffic accident, calamity or another unexpected major event. They can come to us for emotional support, practical support (such as help with applying for compensation) and support in the criminal process. Every year we help hundreds of thousands of victims and surviving relatives in person or online. We also help the people around the victim with tips and advice. Victim Support Netherlands is a national organization with 25 locations. Together we help victims today.

This will be your job

After a major event, all kinds of emotions arise and victims and surviving relatives have to deal with different authorities. You have personal contact with victims on behalf of Victim Support Netherlands. You determine what help they need and offer emotional and practical support. Sometimes one conversation is enough, sometimes someone needs more support. If necessary, refer you for follow-up help.

What are you bringing?

  • You have a natural interest in your fellow man, a lot of patience and are a good listener.
  • Your empathy makes people feel seen and heard.
  • You are practical.
  • You have a good command of the Dutch language.
  • You have digital skills; you can work with a computer and are willing to learn how to work in a new program.

How much time do we ask of you?

In order to provide the best support, we require a minimum availability of 6 to 8 hours per week. In your first weeks you will follow a learning program of 8 to 12 hours per week at the Victim Support Academy.

This is why you do it

You do meaningful work: you make a difference for someone in a vulnerable and difficult period. Of course we will help you do this work well:

  • A learning program from the Victim Support Academy is available especially for you as a new employee. You can follow this online, in class and in the workplace.
  • You will receive guidance from experienced colleagues.
  • You work together in a close-knit team and can always rely on your colleagues.

Good employer

We believe it is important to be a good employer. That is why we ensure:

  • Good training, further education and information about new insights.
  • Good insurance.
  • Expenses and travel allowance.
  • A laptop, telephone and headphones on loan.
  • The ability to work from home and in the office.
