Host at De Thomas

The Thomaskerk, on the edge of Amsterdam's Zuidas, has started an ambitious cultural program that will be further developed in the coming years for the neighborhood and the city. Under the name De Thomas, a house to get things going, she wants to reach a wider audience with a diverse range of cultural activities; the doors are open to anyone who needs meaning, a broader perspective, art and culture, silence and reflection, imagination, theatre, a good conversation, music and literature. Ancient sources shed new light on the times in which we now live. De Thomas has its own theatre, where films are also shown.

The foundation has recently been laid with an exhibition by Ivan Cremer, a partnership of the Grachtenfestival and a series of lunchtime concerts in collaboration with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In the coming years, the program will be further expanded and professionalised. De Thomas is a partner of Hello Zuidas and Iamsterdam.com.

To realize this program we are looking for volunteers.

Season 21/22 has started with a program with which De Thomas focuses on an urban reach in the coming years. The pastor and the Quartermaster direct and do this together with the Communication and Management teams. A board is ultimately responsible for the realization, the financial side and accountability to the subsidy providers. Because the program has received substantial financial support, the plan is now being developed ambitiously and at a rapid pace. The team of volunteers has an important role in the whole and we would like to strengthen it.

What are you going to do?

• You make our audience feel welcome. You receive the public when they visit the church or a cultural event. This can mean: showing your way around the building, checking entrance tickets, selling the tickets that are for sale at the door, managing the buffet. Afterwards, check the theater or the hall for leftover crockery or other items.
• You are a source of information for our guests and artists and you offer help where necessary.

What do we ask?

• A great affinity with art, culture, architecture and/or debates.
• Experience is a plus, not required. You are enthusiastic and you have a sense of hospitality.
• The commitment varies per month and is in consultation, preferably twice. Also in the evening.
• A recent Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG), for which De Thomas bears the costs.

What do we have to offer?

• A new period of new development is dawning for De Thomas and you are happy to be part of it. You think along and move along with these developments.
• As a volunteer you have unlimited access to the events we organize.
• Every year we celebrate the existence of the volunteer team. We like to involve the volunteers in the organization and arrange for mutual meetings to be able to think along.
• There is room to develop within the volunteer roles; if you feel like organizing other voluntary activities (for example guided tours), there are options for that.
