De Thomas, a house for redress, on the Amsterdam Zuidas has started an ambitious cultural program and is looking for a director.
Under the name De Thomas, a house for redress, the Thomaskerk congregation on the Amsterdam Zuidas has started an ambitious program. She wants to throw a new light on our present time from old sources, the biblical story. The aim of this is to reach a wider audience; to open the doors to anyone who needs meaning, a broader perspective, art and culture, silence and reflection, imagination, theatre, a good conversation, music and literature. The foundations have recently been laid, including an exhibition by Ivan Cremer in collaboration with ArtZuid. In the coming years, the program will be further expanded and professionalised.
In order to realize this program, we are looking for administrators (8-12 hours per month).
The Thomaskerk congregation is an active group of people, from a liberal church background and those who are interested in the story of origin, art and culture, housed in the Thomaskerk in Amsterdam South. Municipal activities take place in this special building, designed in the 1960s by architect Karel Sijmons, including the Sunday church service. In addition, the Thomaskerk is used intensively for own and guest programming, for exhibitions and rental. Cultural programs take place regularly in the Thomastheater.
Season 21/22 has launched a program aimed at expanding cultural programming with an urban reach. Two people are employed for this program: the pastor/content leader and a quartermaster/business leader. They are in charge and, together with the Communication and Management teams, they give substance to the cultural activities. In addition, a number of volunteers are employed. The board of De Thomas is ultimately responsible for the realisation, the financial side and accountability to subsidy providers. Because the program is now developing ambitiously and at a rapid pace due to a substantial financial injection, we are looking for board members who want to commit to us on a voluntary basis.
The board meets monthly in the Thomaskerk. In addition to the responsibility for this program and the organizational aspects within it, the board is also in a formal sense the church board of the protestant congregation De Thomas.
What do we ask?
- Experience in managing an organization in which many volunteers work and aspects of meaning are prominent.
- Affinity with the objectives of De Thomas and the church community and the social and social value of the church community
- Affinity with art, culture, architecture and/or debates and experience in or involvement in the development of cultural activities, preferably within Amsterdam.
- Experience with local and national cultural policy, external communication and administrative and political relationships is important for this position.
- Board members are expected to act as ambassadors and external advocates for the De Thomas label
- A recent Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG), for which De Thomas bears the costs.
We are looking for directors with a specific focus on:
- Designing a volunteer organization focused on the social network and support for those involved in the municipality who need extra attention;
- External relations and stakeholder policy;
- Internal organization and business operations.
What do we have to offer?
A period of new development is dawning for De Thomas, in which the board, in close consultation with the pastor/content manager and the quartermaster/business manager, ensures successful programming and good business operations. This is an opportunity for new board members to be highly involved in this development and to be able to provide guidance and content to it. The board currently consists of seven members. In addition to the administrative tasks, the board also takes on a number of operational tasks, appropriate to its own portfolios, and is highly involved in the developments and ambitions of the coming years.
