Help amphibians cross roads on their migration routes to their breeding waters.

In February and March, hundreds of amphibians travel from their wintering grounds to their breeding grounds. On their way they encounter big roads and lots of traffic, like the Nijenoord Allee and Rooseveltweg. Many amphibians are killed on those roads by traffic, before they reach their breeding grounds. That’s why we help toads, frogs and newts cross those roads safely.

What are you going to do?

We help amphibians cross roads half an hou rafter sunset, till maximum 2 hours after sunset. We patrol the roads with a torch, looking for animals. The amphibians that we find, are put in a bucket and bring them to the other side of the road. The peak in amphibian migration is half an hour – 1 hour after sunset. The amount of time a ‘toad shift’ takes exactly, depends on the amount of animals that walk that evening.

If you want to help out, you can put your name on a schedule. So you decide what days you want to help out, there is no obligation for a minimum or maximum amount of days. On your first evening, we make sure an experienced person joins you to explain how we work. There are no toad shifts every day, because the wheather conditions need to meet a certain threshold for the animals to walk.

Who are you?

- You love animals and nature

- You like being outside when it’s dark (early evening, half an hour after sunset till maximum 2 hours after sunset).

- You’re not afraid of a bit of rain, amphibians love wet conditions! (But they don’t like wind or cold)

- You’re flexible

What we offer:

- An educational experience, you learn a lot about amphibians and their migration!

- You are being trained by an experienced person

- Access to our toad WhatsApp group with enthusiastic experienced people that love to answer all your amphibian-related questions!
