What is Grandma's Pen Pal?

With Grandma's Penpal we combat loneliness among the elderly (and young people) on a larger scale and at a deeper level. We match young and old to each other based on interests and personalities and introduce them to each other as a Pen Pal, whereby, as soon as there is a click, contact is maintained on a structural basis. This means that cards or letters are sent regularly, for example every two weeks or every month. As support, volunteers receive reminders and conversation starters on a regular basis and we encourage both to meet in real life and possibly participate in our major annual events.

What are you going to do?

When you sign up as a Pen Pal, you will hopefully soon have a new friend to write cards or letters back and forth with! You will then be linked to one person to have contact with for a longer period of time. We believe it is important that contact is maintained on a structural basis, so that a personal bond can be created. We leave the contact up to you to coordinate, it is important that it suits both of you. For example, send a card every other week on Friday, or a longer letter every month. Explore together what works for you!

How does it work?

Register for this "vacancy" via the link on this page. You will then receive a message within 3 working days about a provisional match, together with all the information you need to get started. We will then put you in touch and help you on your way. We will regularly share useful tips to make contact as smooth as possible, and occasionally ask you how things are going. And if you have any questions, we are always here. Together we will ensure that the contact is enriching for both of you!

Getting there

About Oma's Pen/Belvriend

Oma's Soep sells delicious fresh soups and meals based on grandma's authentic recipe. The proceeds are used to make lonely elderly people happy! At least 50% of the profits from Oma's Soep are donated to the Oma's Soep Foundation. The Foundation organizes weekly activities in various cities throughout the country where young and old are brought together to combat loneliness. Locally, our student boards organize weekly Cooking Days and Soup-at-home days and nationally we organize major events and PR campaigns. In addition, with Oma's Pen/Belvriend we bring young and old into contact one-on-one, creating beautiful friendships.
