Nivon Enschede has its own association building, Dotterbloemstraat 120. More than 200 people participate in activities in the building every week. Everything set up by volunteers. Teachers receive a small fee.
Nivon has been in existence since 1924. First under the name IvAO and later as The Netherlands Institute for Popular Development and Nature Friendship (short for Nivon). Where it was set up at the time to unite workers and for development and encounter with nature, it is still a unifying organization. Not only in the Netherlands but all over Europe, nature friends unite to develop, meet and get closer to nature. Nivon has thirteen nature friend houses, seven houses and seven camping grounds in the Netherlands. In addition, Nivon work groups organize trips such as Spring Travel, JUMP Summer Camps, Nivon Watersport and Trefvakanties. There are also Long-Distance Hiking Trails (LAW) and regional trails throughout the country, and Nivon organizes numerous activities. All this is entirely run by volunteers, except for a small national agency.
