The National Youth Commission of the Red Cross is looking for new members from August 2023! Read all about the MEMBER INTERNATIONAL AID function here!

Do you want to work for the Dutch Red Cross at a national level? And would you like to work on your administrative and communication skills by strengthening and representing the Red Cross youth network together with other board members? The National Youth Commission is looking for new members from August 2023!

The National Youth Commission is looking for candidates for the following positions:

  • Chair
  • National Aid Commissioner
  • Committee member International Aid & International Relations
  • Committee member Communication & Events
  • Committee member Learning & Development

In this vacancy you can read everything about the position of committee member International Aid & International Relations . Would you like to apply for another position within the National Youth Commission? Then also view the other vacancies!

What is the National Youth Commission?

The National Youth Commission (NJC) of the Red Cross strengthens the youth network in the Netherlands and supports young volunteers. The NJC represents young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who work for the Red Cross at the state, district and local levels. The committee participates in the implementation of national policy and the Youth Strategy. Finally, the NJC maintains contact with the national and international network, organizes events and develops projects for young volunteers. Take a look at our Instagram to get an idea of our team!

What are you going to do?

As Committee member International Aid & International Relations you represent the voice of young people within the international aid department of the Association Office and the international networks of the Red Cross. You are aware of the strategy of the Dutch Red Cross and the working method of 'the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement'. Does this sound like something for you? Then this challenging function might be something for you!

International Aid:

  • You represent Dutch young people within projects of the International Aid department of the Association Office.
  • You participate in the monthly International Department Meeting of the International Aid cluster of the Association Office.
  • You work closely with the point of contact within the Red Cross Association office of the International Aid cluster.
  • You investigate possibilities for an exchange program between young volunteers with other countries within the Association of the Red Cross.

International Relations:

  • You maintain relationships with other Red Cross youth boards within Europe. For example via the European Youth Network (EYN) or via the West European (subregional) Network (WEN). If necessary, you participate in European youth meetings and elections, such as the European Youth Coordination Meeting (EYCM).
  • You develop an election procedure / cooperation agreements within the Dutch Red Cross for volunteer positions in international youth boards (IFRC Youth Commission / European Youth Coordination Committee).
  • You ensure that the interests of Dutch young people are represented during the International Conference of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement. This meeting will take place in Geneva in October 2024 (once every four years). What does this mean? Every four years, the international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement meets with state representatives at the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The conference is the movement's highest deliberative body and influences the global humanitarian agenda. It is important that the Dutch delegation also represents the interests of Dutch young people. It is your job to prepare this together with the delegation. If possible, you may participate in this conference yourself.

Who are you?

  • You are between 20 and 30 years old.
  • You are or have been active as a volunteer at the Red Cross. Knowledge of or experience with the (inter)national structure of the Red Cross is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • You are internationally oriented and have a broad interest in international themes, cooperation, advocacy for young people and diplomacy.
  • You can deal well with cultural differences and you are able to build and maintain relationships with other (international) Red Cross youth organizations.
  • You dare to speak in front of groups and are able to clearly communicate your ideas and points of view, both orally and in writing.
  • You speak and write Dutch and English well.
  • You are able to meet with the National Youth Committee at least twice a month (online or physically in Utrecht, travel expenses will be reimbursed).
  • You are available 6-8 hours a week from August 2023 to July 2025. The working hours can be arranged flexibly.

What does the Red Cross offer you as a member of the International Aid & International Relations Committee of the National Youth Commission?

  • The opportunity to build a large network in a short time and to make valuable contacts within and outside the organization.
  • Relevant work experience and the opportunity to strengthen your CV by further developing your diplomatic skills, gain experience in speaking in front of large groups and working for the emergency aid organization in the Netherlands.
  • Guidance in drawing up and implementing your personal development plan, with which you can further develop your skills as a leader and as a person.
  • An influential position within the non-profit sector, in which you can influence the strategy and projects of the Dutch Red Cross through the Youth Committee and thus have a positive impact on society.
  • Knowledge about national and international (emergency) aid, international humanitarian law, crisis management and the seven basic principles of the Red Cross.
  • The possibility to follow a first aid course free of charge and to get your certificate.

Interested?

Are you interested in becoming a member of the International Aid & International Relations committee within the National Youth Commission? Send your motivation (max 400 words) and CV no later than Friday 2 June . You will then be invited for an informative interview in which we will get to know you and see whether the position fits your qualities.

Do you have a few questions first or do you want to know more? Then feel free to contact us!
